The African Women in Technology (AWIT) Kenya 2025 event was a powerful gathering of women in STEM, entrepreneurship, and corporate leadership. Under the theme "Bold Voices, Boundless Futures," the event sparked insightful discussions on how women can shape industries, drive economic growth, and break barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields.
Pezesha was honored to be part of this transformative experience, with our CEO, Hilda Moraa, delivering a compelling keynote address and our team actively engaging in discussions on financial literacy and economic empowerment.
Hilda Moraa shared her journey—one that led to the founding of Pezesha, a company committed to financial inclusion and economic empowerment. Her keynote encouraged young women to embrace their stories unapologetically, walk with purpose, and take bold steps toward their careers and business ventures.
Across the event, several themes stood out:
🔹 The Power of Women in Fintech For many women in the audience, hearing about the realities of fintech leadership was eye-opening. Hilda shared how fintech is not just about technology—it’s about building trust, solving real problems, and opening doors to financial inclusion. Women must be bold, take up space, and leverage their unique perspectives to drive meaningful change.
🔹 STEM is the Future, and It Belongs to Women One young woman in the audience asked, "How do I stand out in tech when the space is already so competitive?" The answer? Specialization. Hilda emphasized that the future of STEM is in niche expertise—data science, AI, and digital finance. More than just technical skills, women must build confidence in their knowledge and own their expertise.
🔹 The Art of Building Strong Networks Another moment that stood out was a discussion on networking. Many women admitted that reaching out, speaking up, and making connections felt intimidating. The response? Networking isn’t about asking for help—it’s about building relationships. Whether through mentorship, peer support, or industry events, growth happens when we step out of our comfort zones and connect with others who challenge and inspire us.
🔹 Financial Literacy: The Missing Piece At Pezesha, financial literacy is at the heart of empowerment. When speaking to the attendees, the reality was clear—many women-led businesses struggle not because they lack great ideas, but because they lack financial clarity. Understanding cash flow, creditworthiness, and financial planning can be the difference between a struggling business and a thriving one.
That’s why Pezesha is launching a financial literacy product to equip SMEs with the knowledge and tools to strengthen their financial health and access funding opportunities on 24th April 2025.
At Pezesha, empowerment is more than just a conversation—it is embedded in our mission, operations, and company culture. Here’s how we actively support the principles shared at AWIT:
🌟 Commitment to Gender Diversity – With 50% of our workforce being women, Pezesha ensures equal opportunities in leadership, decision-making, and career growth.
🌟 Encouraging Careers in STEM and Fintech – Through mentorship, upskilling, and hands-on experience, Pezesha supports women in data science, AI, and fintech innovation.
🌟 Financial Literacy for SMEs – Pezesha continuously invests in financial literacy initiatives, equipping SMEs with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions, improve their creditworthiness, and secure funding.
🌟 Upcoming Financial Literacy Product – Pezesha is soon launching a financial literacy product aimed at empowering SMEs to enhance their financial management and reporting. This will improve their credit profiles, making them more eligible for funding opportunities.
🌟 Fostering a Supportive Workplace – Pezesha provides a collaborative and inclusive environment where women can thrive, share knowledge, and grow professionally.
🌟 Creating Networking Opportunities – The company encourages and supports women-focused networking and mentorship initiatives, ensuring women have access to industry leaders and decision-makers.
The event ended with a strong reminder: women must invest in themselves—not just in knowledge but in confidence. They must own their space, advocate for their value, and lift each other up along the way.
As Hilda powerfully stated:
"Women have a lot of power to change the economy, environment, family, and beyond. Follow your purpose and integrate it with your life."
At Pezesha, we remain committed to this mission—ensuring that women in fintech, entrepreneurship, and business have the resources, support, and knowledge to thrive.
